In Brief: SpongeBob's clumsy cousin Stanley comes to stay with him.

Story: A package arrives at SpongeBob's door. He picks it up but it's so heavy he struggles to get it inside. He puts it on the table and opens it. A sponge is crammed inside. SpongeBob gasps. It's his cousin, Stanley. Stanley gets out of the box and tells SpongeBob how cramped it was in there. SpongeBob reads a note sent by his Uncle Sherm. It says that Stanley is extremely clumsy, can't hold down a job and ruins everything he touches. Uncle Sherm hopes SpongeBob can straighten him out. Stanley goes over to check out SpongeBob's refrigerator but throws out all the contents. He tells Stanley that at least he doesn't have to clean it out. Stanley then goes in SpongeBob's bathroom to check out his toilet. He overflows it and water comes from underneath the bathroom door. Finally, Stanley goes over to the TV and changes the channels. He says Uncle Sherm doesn't let him watch TV at home. The TV explodes. Stanley notices pictures on SpongeBob's wall of him working at the Krusty Krab. He tells SpongeBob that he wishes he had a job.

SpongeBob takes Stanley over to meet Squidward. When Squidward sees there's now two sponges he panics. He packs everything in boxes, puts a for sale sign in his yard, flags down a moving truck and quickly leaves. Stanley comments to SpongeBob that Squidward seems busy. They next go to see Sandy. She puts out her hand to shake Stanley's. He trips, making a tear in Sandy's space suit causing her to shoot up to the surface. SpongeBob tells Stanley he's probably not scientist material. Finally, they go to Patrick's rock. SpongeBob says to Stanley that Patrick's a genius. Patrick walks around Stanley examining him. He asks Stanley what he's good at. Stanley tells him he's not good at anything. Patrick tells him to sit down and concentrate on doing absolutely nothing. Stanley gets figity and starts nervously tapping his fingers and feet. He tells Patrick he can't do it. Patrick angrilly tells Stanley to leave his precense. Stanley frustratingly tells SpongeBob he can't do anything right but SpongeBob keeps on convincing him they'll find something he can do. SpongeBob looks at his watch at sees that it's time to go to work. He kisses his Krusty Krab hat and puts it on his head. Stanley starts to cry so SpongeBob invites him to come to work with him.

SpongeBob and Stanley walk into the Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs picks SpongeBob up and kisses him and asks him if he's gonna make him a lot of money today. He then says that he wishes there were two of SpongeBob. He then notices Stanley. Mr. Krabs notices that he feels, smells and even tastes like SpongeBob. He instantly hires Stanley. Stanley touches the register and it bursts into flames and catches the money on fire. Mr. Krabs yells at SpongeBob and asks if he's responsible for this. He takes the blame for Stanley. Stanley's first customers walks up. He starts to order but Stanley interupts him. He sets up a camera and takes a series of pictures of him and the customer. Even one of them dressed as a bride and groom. The customer finally can't take it anymore and explodes. The customers start a riot and SpongeBob feeds all of them. Mr. Krabs comes into the kitchen and sees that it's an absolute mess. He tells SpongeBob he needs to take pride in his workspace like Stanley. Stanley has put the pictures he's taken of him with the customers and put them up on the wall. Mr. Krabs warns SpongeBob that he better not have lied about Stanley because he passed up several other relatives before him. Sandy and Squidward's cousins and Mr. Krab's little nephews are shown.

SpongeBob explains to Stanley that he can't keep covering for him. He notices that Stanley has bent his spatula. SpongeBob is very upset. Mr. Krabs comes in to see what's going on and notices the spatula broken. SpongeBob tells Mr. Krabs the truth and explains to him that he didn't break the spatula, it was Stanley and that he's been covering for him all day because he can't do anything right. Stanley admits SpongeBob is right and runs off crying. Mr. Krabs gets a brilliant idea about the perfect job for him. The next day, SpongeBob wishes Stanley luck on his new job. He tells SpongeBob he bets he'll do this job even better. Stanley walks over to the Chum Bucket and Plankton says good morning to him. Plankton says to himself that he can't believe that Krabs let the blood relative of his best worker work for him. The Chum Bucket explodes behind him as Mr. Krabs watches through the window. Stanley apologizes as Plankton says that's the end of him.

SpongeBob: Why not? *the TV explodes*

Stanley: That's why. *runs off* What's that?

SpongeBob: Oh, it's okay. There's nothing good on television anyway. Nothing.

Patrick: Looking for your calling, huh? *examines Stanley* So what are you good at?

Stanley: Nothing.

Patrick: Nothing at all?

Stanley: Yep.

Patrick: Interesting. Let's see how good you are at nothing.

SpongeBob: That's perfect! Patrick can do nothing better than anyone. You'll be learning from the master.

Patrick: Come with me. First sit down in this chair. Clear your mind. Empty it of all thoughts until you are doing absolutely. . .nothing. *starts to droll*

SpongeBob: Isn't he amazing?

Stanley: Clear my mind. Do nothing. *Stanley starts to tap foot and twitch, he jumps out of the chair* I can't do it!

Patrick: You are not worthy of instruction on the imobile arts! Leave my presence!

Stanley: Couldn't I try. . .

Patrick: Zip it! Not a word! *Patrick starts to droll and look stupid again*

Observations:

Uncle Sherm This isn't the only mention of Uncle Sherm. SpongeBob also mentions him in "Krab Borg" and "Pest of the West".

Sherm's Note At the bottom of the note SpongeBob reads, Uncle Sherm writes, "I'M FREE! FREE!" talking about Stanley now living with SpongeBob.

Relatives Relatives of Sandy (a male squirrel dressed in Scottish clothes) and Squidward (a sloppy looking squid with long blonde hair) are shown when Mr. Krabs says he turned them down after they asked to work for him. It is unknown how they are related to Sandy and Squidward.

SpongeBob's cousins This is the second time an episode is named after one of SpongeBob's cousins. The first being "Blackjack".
