In Brief: Spongebob and Patrick learn curse words, but think they're just speaking fancy, harmless words.
Story: At closing time at the Krusty Krab one night, Mr. Krabs makes SpongeBob take a bag of trash to the dumpster. SpongeBob discovers writings all over the dumpster that say things like "Squidward Smells." SpongeBob finds one that says "Krabs is a ____." He doesn't know what "____" means, so he asks Patrick, who says it's a "sentence enhancer," which is a word you use to sound fancy. The two begin talking with them, but don't know they're curse words.
The next day at the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob and Patrick talk to each other using the "enhancers" in front of the customers. SpongeBob says the bad words on a speaker, so his dirty mouth drives away everyone. Squidward tells Mr. Krabs the customers left because SpongeBob used the words on the intercom, so Krabs explains to SpongeBob and Patrick there are 13 bad words they shouldn't say. The two promise not to use them again.
Later, SpongeBob and Patrick are playing the board game "Eels and Escalators." Patrick gets nothing but success while SpongeBob ends up losing and says a bad word. Patrick races to tell Mr. Krabs, while Spongebob chases him. While running, Patrick curses too, so SpongeBob plans to tattle. He beats him to the Krusty Krab and tries telling Mr. Krabs, but SpongeBob talks too fast and he doesn't understand. Patrick rushes in and they each tell what the other said. Mr. Krabs is shocked and makes them paint the restaurant.
While carrying paint cans, Mr. Krabs hits his foot on a rock and says all 13 bad words. SpongeBob and Patrick rush to tell Mr. Krabs' mom at her house. They tell her the words Krabs said, and she makes the three paint her home for saying them.
While bringing the painters lemonade, Mama Krabs hits her foot on a rock and the three are shocked to hear her make a horn noise (which takes place of a bad word), but the noise was actually Old Man Jenkins's jalopy. Everyone laughs as Jenkins drives by and honks his horn.
Song: "Takin' Out the Trash"
Takin' out the trash
Takin' out the trash...
Quotes:
Mr. Krabs: Take that pile of filth out with you.
SpongeBob: *gasp* Mr. Krabs! You shouldn't talk about Squidward like that!
Squidward: He means this filth, you loon. *holds up bag of trash*
SpongeBob: Hi, Squidward! How the *dolphin chirp* are ya?
Patrick: Great *dolphin chirp* day, isn't it Squidward?
Patrick: *after Mr. Krabs mentions there are 13 bad words* That's a lot of *dolphin chirp* bad words.
SpongeBob: *after accidentally cursing* ...some things just slip out. You gotta understand.
Patrick: Don't worry SpongeBob, I understand. *pause* MR. KRABS! *runs to tattle*
Patrick: *after he and SpongeBob say curse words in front of Krabs* What's gonna happen to us?
SpongeBob: We'll probably get forty lashes.
Patrick: Oh no! *pictures himself with lots of eyelashes*
Observations:
Krusty Krab Dumpster Writings:
-Starfish Rool -Nematoads Are People Too -Dogfish Loves Catfish -Patchy Was Here -Squidward Smells (Good) -Up With Bubbles, Down With Air -Krabs is a ____ -Onix
Maximum Capacity The maximum capacity for the Krusty Krab is 350 (but lowers as SpongeBob and Patrick curse).
Eels and Ladders "Eels and Escalators," the board game SpongeBob and Patrick play at home, is a take-off of the board game "Chutes and Ladders," in which you climb up ladders instead of escalators and ride down slides instead of eels. You also use a spinner instead of dice.
On the Board The Eels and Escalators board has three escalators and four eels on it.
Running Nowhere Like many cartoons, the trick of reusing backgrounds was pulled as SpongeBob and Patrick ran to the Krusty Krab to tattle and to Mama Krabs' house.
Patrick's Ice Cream Cone When Patrick appears at the door of the Krusty Krab to tattle to Mr. Krabs about SpongeBob cursing, the ice cream he eats is likely mint (it's green).
Colors of Paint Mr. Krabs Gives SpongeBob and Patrick to Paint the Krusty Krab:
-lime green -purple -teal -light blue -yellowish orange -red
Only Other Episode The only other episode Mama Krabs (voiced by Paul Tibbitt) has appeared in is season 3's "Mid-Life Crustacean" so far.
