In Brief: The history of the Krabby Patty secret formula is finally explained.
Story: A birthday cake on a cart rolls into the Krusty Krab. The icing says "Happy Birthday, Krabs." Squidward thinks it's suspicuous but Mr. Krabs just wants a birthday wish. Plankton pops out from underneath a candle. The balloons pop and confetti goes everywhere. Plankton's cart engages a jet pack and launches itself into the kitchen. The cake explodes and Plankton takes the formula and flies out of the kitchen. SpongeBob squirts Plankton with ketchup and mustard and Mr. Krabs turns the ceiling fan on. Plankton's machine bounces off of it and he falls to the floor. SpongeBob snatches the secret formula with his tongue and swallows it. Plankton tells Mr. Krabs he'll rue the day and he'll be back. SpongeBob asks Mr. Krabs why he hates them so much. Mr. Krabs says he's to blame for that. He says that him and Plankton used to be best friends. Mr. Krabs sits on a barrel as everyone crowds around and he begins to tell a story.
They flashback to Mr. Krabs and Plankton as babies. Eugene puts Plankton on his crib mobile. Then they cut to them and a birthday party where Eugene sticks out his toungue to let Plankton blow out his candles. They move ahead to high school where bullies are picking on Plankton. He tries to perform an experiment but it just blows up in his face. Eugene takes up for him but then they turn and start picking on him too, calling him rag boy. Everybody laughs at him. Mr. Krabs explains that when he was growing up he was extremely poor and his mother had to make his clothes from old rags. Mama Krabs makes an outfit from Old Man Jenkins' rags but he isn't done with them yet so he rips them back off of Eugene to wipe his boat. Then one day while him and Plankton were walking he finds a penny on the ground. Eugene asks Plankton what it is and he tells him it's money and you can buy things with it. He tells Plankton it's the most beautiful thing he's ever seen. Eugene uses the money to buy Plankton a balloon but he flies up in the sky with it.
SpongeBob comes back with the secret recipe and hands it to Mr. Krabs. He tells him he didn't know what it had to go through to get here. Mr. Krabs tells him he has a pretty good idea and then continues with his story. He thinks back to a popular restuarant called Stinky Burgers. All the kids are clamoring to get one of Stinky's burgers. Stinky comes out and asks the kids what he can do for them. They all ask for a burger and he tells them that there's enough for everybody. Then the kids start to argue about rather they like Stinky or respect him. Stinky settles it by saying that they li-spect him. Mr. Krabs and Plankton come in and move through the crowd asking for two stinky burgers. Stinky tells them to go around back to get rid of them. The kids thank Stinky for keeping the nerds out. He then gathers them all around and explains to them that without their kind patronage, he'd be a penniless loser like ragboy. Mr. Krabs and Plankton bang on the back door. Stinky opens it and tells them to go away or they'll drive away all the normal customers. As he is talking his watch beeps and he announces it's quiting time. He rips off his clothes to reveal much nicer clothes underneath. Stinky gets in his limo and pushes his big stack of money over. As he drives off a dollar flies into Mr. Krabs' hand. Mr. Krabs and Plankton see how rich he is and they decide that if they make a better burger than Stinky they can be rich too.
Mr. Krabs and Plankton walk by the dump. They start to work together to make a great burger. Plankton holds up one on a platter. They take the burger to Stinky's to rub it in the kids' faces. When they got back to Stinky's they see it's been shut down by the Health Department. Mr. Krabs and Plankton go back to their hideout and work to convert it into a restuarant. Mr. Krabs cuts the grand opening tape and customers start to line up. He waits on his first customer and gets handed a dollar. One of the fish tells Mr. Krabs and Plankton that their burgers are worse than Stinky's and if his restaurant wasn't closed they'd go back there. The customers eat the burgers though. Mr. Krabs and Plankton start to discuss the customers eating and enjoying the burgers and the recipe. Plankton starts talking about ruling the world and that he doesn't care about satisfying the customers. They both fight over the recipe and it rips in half. Mr. Krabs tells Plankton burgers are not for ruling the world. He steps on a trap door and Plankton launches him out of the restuarant and into a trash can. Plankton pops out of the peppers shaker and accuses Mr. Krabs of being a liar. He flashes back to the old restuarant again and begins to tells the story like he says it really happened. Mr. Krabs tells Plankton he'll rule the customers stomachs and then their money. Planktons asks what about satisfying the customer but Mr. Krabs says barnacles to the customers. Mr. Krabs blows Plankton away with a straw and he also lands in the trash. He comes out of the trash and looks at his half of the recipe.
SpongeBob comments that Plankton's story doesn't sound like Mr. Krabs' story at all. Karen speaks up and says that's because it isn't. She tells them that Plankton and Mr. Krabs are both liars. Karen explains that back then she was starting out as a security system and her and Plankton met when he installed her. Plankton speaks up and says it was their third date. Karen recorded the whole thing in her database. Flashback to Mr. Krabs and Plankton looking at the burger they created. Mr. Krabs announces over the loudspeaker for everybody to come and get a Plankton and Krabs patty. Suddenly, they hear hillbilly music start to play. Mr. Krabs says it's Old Man Jenkins and that he'd recognize that music anywhere. Old Man Jenkins puts a tire in his boat and says he's been looking for some new shoes for Ol' Bessie. Mr. Krabs tells Old Man Jenkins that since he's helped him and his mom so much it would be an honor for him to be the first one to try their burgers. Old Man Jenkins says he'd love to and takes a bite. He bites into the burger and smiles, then passes out. Later, Mr. Krabs reads a newspaper saying that their burger poisoned Old Man Jenkins. Plankton accuses Mr. Krabs of tainting the patty. Mr. Krabs points the blame back at Plankton for putting in too much seaweed sauce. They argue back and forth and fight over the recipe. It tears in half sending both of them to the opposite side of the restuarant. Plankton leaves, slamming the door causing a shelf above with a bunch of ingredients to fall into the pot. Mr. Krabs samples some and says he thinks he's found the perfect patty batter.
Meanwhile, Plankton was back at the elementary school. Mr. Krabs and Plankton both have their patties with them. They start to argue with each other. The kids see this and one of them yells out that there's a nerd fight. Plankton says that they'll get the customers to decide whose patty is better. One kid says that Big Johnny will eat anything. Plankton gives Johnny his burger. He tries it and spits it out on both of his friends. Mr. Krabs then hands Johnny a Krabby Patty. Johnny loves it and soon all the other kids are enjoying the krabby patties also. Plankton promises Krabs that one day he'll steal the secret formula from him. The flashback ends. Mr. Krabs says his recipe was is and will always be the best. Plankton tells him he wouldn't even have the recipe at all if it wasn't for him. Karen interupts them and tells them to stop yelling at each other and that she can't believe that they'd let a recipe ruin such a wonderful friendship. Both Mr. Krabs and Plankton tear up. Plankton says that all he's ever wanted is to get their friendship back the way it used to be. They start to hug and cry. SpongeBob asks Karen if it warms her heart. She says she guesses it would if she had one. Plankton apologizes but suddenly turns on Mr. Krabs and grabs the formula from his back pocket. Karen takes off with Plankton and the formula. Everyone chases each other outside.
