In Brief: After Squidward plays a harsh April Fools prank on SpongeBob, he needs to get himself to apologize to him.

Story: SpongeBob is happy and cheerful because it's April Fools Day, his favorite holiday. Squidward, on the other hand, isn't thrilled to learn it's April 1st because of all the silly pranks SpongeBob pulls. He tries calling in sick, but Mr. Krabs lures him to work with an April Fool's prank. The prank makes Squidward attempt to quit his job, but SpongeBob brings him back by promising not to play anymore jokes on him.

Around the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob plays many April Fools pranks on the customers. While the customers like his jokes, Squidward gets annoyed by all his pranking. SpongeBob's noisy laughing over the loudspeaker irritates Squidward. He decides to teach SpongeBob what an April Fool's prank really is.

Squidward sets up an April Fools prank in the Krusty Krab. A mustard stain on the floor attracts SpongeBob to it. When he finishes cleaning it, Squidward activates a rope around him that ties to his ankle and sends him flying through flour, walls, people, and eventually landing in a trash can. Squidward finds it funny, but SpongeBob is hurt and the customers turn away from him. He decides that he must apologize to SpongeBob, a thing he knows will not be easy for him.

At SpongeBob's house, Squidward tries apologizing to SpongeBob for what he did at the Krusty Krab. When the words won't come out, he tries saying sorry through notes in bottles, tin can telephones and bubbles, but SpongeBob doesn't get the message. Thinking of how people thought of his actions gets Squid to finally let his apology out. However, the joke's on him: he wants SpongeBob to not tell anybody what he said, but a whole crowd of people in SpongeBob's house hear him.

Quotes:

SpongeBob: No more jokes on you today, I promise.

Squidward: You do?

SpongeBob: Sure. There's lots of other willing participants. Right Mr. Krabs? *Krabs sits back in his chair; a whoopie cushion blows*

SpongeBob: *to his tongue outside his mouth* Hey, your shoe's united. *Tongue looks down* April Fools! You're not wearing shoes!

Squidward: *after prank, to cylinder-shaped SpongeBob* April Fools, you little sausage!

Squidward: Why is it that whenever I'm having fun, it's wrong?

Squidward: *writes apology note to SpongeBob, places it in a bottle, seals it and rolls it to SpongeBob* Well, aren't you gonna open it?

SpongeBob: I can't. I don't have a bottle opener.

SpongeBob: *after Squidward's apology* Squidward, is all that true?

Squidward: Yes, yes SpongeBob! Yes, it's all true!

SpongeBob: Even the part about the lima beans and the car chase?

Squidward: *stumped* Yes, yes, whatever!

Observations:

Sailor Painting Next to Squidward's shellphone is a painting of him as a sailor.
