In Brief: Gary leaves SpongeBob for Patrick, so SpongeBob tries to win his snail back.
Story: While SpongeBob and Gary are playing tag outside, Patrick drops by and plays with them. After he tags Gary, Gary crawls all over him all day and night. SpongeBob tells Patrick that Gary likes him. Because of this, Patrick and Gary have a sleep over.
The next morning, Patrick shows SpongeBob that Gary follows him wherever he goes. It is the opposite for SpongeBob - Gary ignores him. He won't come to SpongeBob when he brings out his ball or Snail Nip or save him from falling from a window. When they set Gary down to see who he'd rather be with, he crawls to Patrick. SpongeBob, feeling angry, decides to get a new pet that'll be better than Gary.
SpongeBob gets himself a pet worm (which is just like a dog on land) named Rex to make Gary jealous. However, Gary doesn't even notice and the worm leaves.
Once again, SpongeBob comes home with a new pet, this time a snail named Larry. This new snail isn't like Gary at all. He constantly hisses, doesn't like the food SpongeBob serves, sleeps in SpongeBob's bed instead of the newspapers on the floor and doesn't like SpongeBob's jokes. While SpongeBob is thinking about Gary, Patrick and Gary show up at his house to do laundry. SpongeBob, desperate to get Gary to come home, offers to let his snail live in the house with no rules. He says he'll let Gary chew up the sofa, use anything as a litter box, eat whenever he wants and use a wood carving of Squidward as a scratching post. Patrick thinks this is pathetic and puts his shorts in SpongeBob's washer. Then, Gary crawls into the washer and removes a cookie from the shorts pocket. After eating it, he comes back to SpongeBob. SpongeBob realizes that he was only spending so much time with Patrick to get the cookie in his pocket. The two go for a walk, leaving Patrick "dumped."

Quotes:
Patrick: *to SpongeBob, who's taking Gary away* Hold it right there, Dad Mom AngryPants!
SpongeBob: What's that supposed to mean?
Patrick: I don't know, but I do know Gary knows who he wants to go with.
SpongeBob: *realizes Gary plays with Patrick and not him* What's wrong with me? *sniffs armpit* Do I offend?
SpongeBob: A worm really is the pet for me. So loyal, so trusting, ALWAYS BY MY SIDE! *SpongeBob sees his worm boarding a bus to leave*
Patrick: Would it be all right if me and Gary did some laundry around here?
SpongeBob: *sadly* Laundry? But...we used to do laundry...
Patrick: And uh, Spongebob, could we borrow some soap?
SpongeBob: Soap? But...we used to use soap.
Patrick: *sees Gary in the washer in his pants pocket* He only liked me for my shorts!
Observations:
Gary's Slime When Gary crawls on Patrick's face, the path of slime left behind misses his eyeballs. Also, the slime instantly disappears after SpongeBob finishes saying "That's just a snail's way of saying 'He likes you'".
Watch The watch on SpongeBob's wrist disappears as he reaches to Gary to pull him off Patrick.
Broken Mirror? After Patrick brushes his teeth, the mirror no longer casts reflections, even when Gary and him are in front of it.
The Street is Narrow The bus that picks up Rex takes up the entire street.
Larry Eating Larry the snail has to sit on top of two books on a chair to reach the dinner table. Also, salt and pepper shakers hang above the table on strings and the table appears to be held up by a beach ball.
Fridge and Freezer Handles The handle on SpongeBob's refrigerator door is on the opposite side of the freezer door's handle. The fridge handle is on the left side and the freezer's is on the right.
Inside the Refrigerator SpongeBob has a carton of Chinese food in his refrigerator. He also has a bunch of brown eggs on a rack that aren't in a carton.
Scratching Post Gary doesn't need a scratching post...he has no claws.
Wider Post The wood carving of Squidward becomes wider to form the heart after SpongeBob scratches it up.
Forgotten Cookie Patrick was likely going to wash his shorts without taking the cookie out of the pocket.
