In Brief: Squidward has nowhere to live after quitting his job, so SpongeBob takes him in.

Story: It's closing time at the Krusty Krab, and Mr. Krabs counts his money in the cash register. He notices that his first dime ever made is missing and freaks out. Because Squidward works at the register all day, Mr. Krabs accuses him of stealing his dime. Squidward immediately quits his job. SpongeBob tells him that if he's ever in trouble to come to him, but Squidward insists he won't need to.

Later on, SpongeBob finds Squidward living on the streets in a cardboard box. He lets Squidward come live with him. At the pineapple, SpongeBob does so much for Squidward. He lets him sleep in his bed while he sleeps on the couch, lays out a breakfast buffet for him on his bed, gives him massages and all kinds of other things, and rushes things up to him that he asks for in bed.

Many months pass, and Squidward still hasn't seeked a job and SpongeBob is still treating him like gold. He's exhausted from all he's doing. Squidward yells for some lemonade, so SpongeBob rushes to him with some. In the bedroom, they argue about Squid not having a job yet. SpongeBob tries rubbing it in to Squidward that he needs to go out and get a job by giving Squidward Alphabet soup that spells out "Get a job", showing him the job listings, telling him about something that a friend did at his job, making a TV show about getting jobs, and saying he calls someone with a job to fix things that are broken. Then, SpongeBob goes mad and rushes Squidward to the Krusty Krab.

To get Squidward's job back, SpongeBob offers Mr. Krabs replacement dimes for the one that was supposedly stolen by Squidward, but Mr. Krabs won't take them, saying he can't put a price on his first dime. While SpongeBob is shaking Mr. Krabs in frustration, the humongous stone dime falls out of Mr. Krabs's pocket (that's how dimes were in the days of Krabs's first dime). Because the dime is back, Mr. Krabs lets Squidward come back to work - but accuses Squidward of hiding the dime in his pants.

Song: (none)

Quotes:

SpongeBob: But a visit to the Krusty Krab makes everyone happy! And what could be better than serving up smiles? *grins*

Squidward: Being dead, or anything else.

SpongeBob: But Squidward, it's a cold, cold world out there. No one's gonna serve you happiness on a silver platter.

Woman: *walks by with silver platter of cookies* Free samples?

SpongeBob: Cookies! *eats one*

Squidward: Can I have one? *Woman walks off without giving Squid one*

Squidward: I can become anything I set my mind to. I could be a football player. Or a king. Or a spaceman.

SpongeBob: Or a football-playing king in space! With a moustache!

Squidward: *talking about his lemonade* No! No! It's already contaminated by a bad lemon! It won't work!

SpongeBob: Hmm...that's two things in this house that WON'T WORK.

Squidward: *after SpongeBob shows him the job listings in the newspaper* Get that away from me! You know I'm allergic to newsprint!

Observations:

Suction Cups Squidward has four suction cups on each tentacle, making the total on his body 24. When he's counting his suction cups, he counts to 31.
