In Brief: SpongeBob attends Squidward's art class.

Story: Squidward gets a job teaching art at the rech center. A group of people arrive, but they leave when they realize it isn't cooking class. Much to Squidward's disappointment, SpongeBob is his only student. Squidward tells SpongeBob that art isn't all fun and games and that they have to go by the book. First, Squidward tries to show SpongeBob how to draw a circle. He draws one on the board, then asks SpongeBob to do it. SpongeBob draws a perfect circle on the paper. Squidward rips up SpongeBob's paper and he puts the pieces together and makes a new picture.

Next, Squidward goes to the marble and hits it to make a sculpture, but it just crumbles. It's SpongeBob's turn, but his turns out perfectly. Squidward loves the sculpture, but he pretends he doesn't. He tells SpongeBob he has the nose all wrong, and puts a nose that looks like his on it. SpongeBob gets very upset that his art wasn't perfect.

The door flies open and SpongeBob flies out the window, lands in the dumpster and is taken to the dump. Monty P. Moneybags introduces himself and tells Squidward he's looking for art for his new museum. He looks at Squidward's paintings, but isn't interested. He sees the statue SpongeBob made and thinks it's brilliant. He says he must find the artist reponsible. Squidward takes the credit and says he made the sculpture. Monty tells Squidward to put it in his car. While taking it outside, Squidward knocks off the head. Monty tells him that he has to make another one. Squidward tells him that he'll make one even better.

Squidward runs to the dump to find SpongeBob. He finds him hiding in a cereal box. Squidward says he'll give SpongeBob another chance, and that he will turn his hands into tools of beauty. They go back to the rec center and Squidward tries to convince SpongeBob to make another statue out of the marble. SpongeBob says he isn't sure that he can do it. Squidward tells him to concentrate and visualize the sculpture within. SpongeBob taps the marble and it decenegrates into powder. Squidward goes crazy and trashes the rec center, throwing paint and marble everywhere. Monty comes back and Squidward tells him that all this is the janitor's responsibility. Squidward leaves, not knowing he has made a beautiful piece of art.

Quotes:

Squidward: Repeat after me. I have no talent.

SpongeBob: I have no talent.

Squidward: Mr. Tentacles has all the talent.

SpongeBob: Mr. Tentacles has all the talent.

Squidward: If I'm lucky, some of Mr Tentacles' talent will rub off on me.

SpongeBob: If I'm lucky, Mr Talent will rub his tentacles on my art.

Monty: I, uh, don't think that will fit in with the other pieces in my collection.

Squidward: Why not?

Monty: Because, it's an art collection. (laughs)

Squidward: You know, between you and me, this isn't my best work. Why don't you come back tomorrow and I'll have something that will really knock your socks off.

Monty: Between you and me, I'm not wearing socks.

Observations:

The Paper This is similiar to "The Paper," in which SpongeBob also makes creative things out of paper that Squidward can't do.

Starting Early Squidward's art class started at 9:00 am.

Fancy Watch Squidward's watch is a little mini painter's palette.

Last Name This is the first episode where SpongeBob says Squidward's last name, Tentacles. It was first mentioned in "Opposite Day."

Finally Learning When trying to show SpongeBob how to draw a circle the second time, Squidward was able to draw it perfectly, unlike the first time.

Statue The statue at the end is Michaelangelo's "David".
