In Brief: Tired of getting scared by everyone each Halloween, SpongeBob plans to create a scare at the Krusty Krab Halloween party.

Story: At the Krusty Krab on Halloween night, Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob the story about the Flying Dutchman. After it's told, Squidward scares him out of the Krusty Krab. On his walk home, he gets scared by a trick-or-teater and Mrs. Puff.

SpongeBob carves a giant pumpkin at home, then is scared by his own creation. He is disappointed that he gets scared so easily and can't scare others. Patrick comes over and helps SpongeBob make a costume of the Flying Dutchman's ghost (a sheet over his head and wooden shoes). SpongeBob unsuccessfully scares three trick-or-treating kids. Patrick gives SpongeBob the idea that he needs a rounded head to be scary. In the bathroom, Patrick shaves away at SpongeBob's head to make it round.

With a rounded head under the sheet, Patrick thinks he is perfect and scary now. The two go and scare a man and the three trick-or-treaters, thinking they scared the barnacles out of them (though they don't). Their next target is the people at the Krusty Krab Halloween party.

On the roof of the Krusty Krab, Patrick puts out the building's lights. SpongeBob is seen through a door on the roof and Patrick speaks like a ghost through a mega phone for him. The ghost hangs from rope as he dangles in the Krusty Krab, scaring everyone. Patrick, who's holding the rope, gets stung by a jellyfish and runs screaming in pain. The crowd finds out it's SpongeBob and laughs.

Suddenly, the real Flying Dutchman interrupts the party, threatening to take everyone's soul. He says SpongeBob's Dutchman costume isn't scary, but insulting. The Flying Dutchman is about to take souls, but flees in fright after removing SpongeBob's costume. Everyone else flees, too, because Patrick shaved too much earlier, making SpongeBob's face a stick with his brain showing on top.

Quotes:

SpongeBob: *with white sheet on him, dressed as square ghost* What do you think?

Patrick: Great, you’re going as my trick-or-treat bag!

SpongeBob: *dressed as square ghost* Rar...rar!

Kid in Witch Costume: Look, it’s the haunted mattress.

SpongeBob: What's the difference between that ghost and me?

Patrick: *looking back and forth at his rounded paper ghost and SpongeBob as a square ghost* Uh...n-no wait, don't tell me. Ugh, Ugh...don't-don't-don't tell me. DON'T TELL ME, DON'T TELL ME, I CAN DO THIS! I CAN DO THIS, DON'T TELL ME! DON'T TELL ME, DON'T TELL ME! Okay, tell me.

SpongeBob: Ooooh! I'm the Flying Dutchman.

Patrick: Ooooh! I don't know who I am.

Kid Dressed as Mummy: *notices SpongeBob is no longer square under his sheet* Wasn’t that the haunted mattress?

Kid in Jack-O-Lanturn Mask: I guess he’s been demoted to a haunted sleeping pack.

Observations:

Screams At certain points during Mr. Krabs' story about the Flying Dutchman, screams can be heard in the background.

Forgotten Hat When SpongeBob is scared out of the Krusty Krab's roof by Squidward the second time, his work hat flies onto the ground and stays there.

Mrs. Puff's Boat Mrs. Puff's boat mobile has a broom attached to it (because she's dressed like a witch).

SpongeBob's Closet SpongeBob has shoes, pairs of square pants, and what may be towels in his living room closet.

Dotted Shape In this episode, SpongeBob draws a dotted half-circle in the air with his fingers. He also does this to make different shapes in "Krusty Love."

The Sponge Who Could Fly SpongeBob flaps his arms and floats in the air (like a bird) before he arrives at the door of the first house of the person he and Patrick try to scare.

Boat Mobiles At the Krusty Krab's Halloween party, three boat mobiles can be seen when we see the outside of the building during the party the first time. All the other times, no boat mobiles are seen.

Costumes Worn at the Krusty Krab Halloween Party:

-Frankenstein

-Two Frankenstein's Brides (a background character and Pearl)

-Mummy

-Pirate

-Vampire

-Fish in a Bowl

-Witch

-Jack-o-Lanturn (just a mask)

-Two Flying Dutchmans (SpongeBob and Squidward)

Jelly Ghosts On the Krusty Krab's walls, there are a few pictures of a cross between a ghost and a jellyfish.

First Appearence...Kind Of This episode has the first appearence of the Flying Dutchman in person. He is pictured in a book in "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost," however.
