In Brief: SpongeBob finds riding fishing hooks with Patrick a blast, even though Mr. Krabs has warned him that he could suffer serious consequences if caught by a fisherman.

Story: Mr. Krabs acts wild and runs around the Krusty Krab when he learns that "the hooks" are back in town. He explains to SpongeBob that they are used to capture sea creatures, and if caught, you are eaten or taken to a gift shop. SpongeBob knows he doesn't want to get caught. While grilling Krabby Patties, Patrick swings by to tell him the carnival is in town. SpongeBob takes a break from work to go see it with him.

Patrick and SpongeBob arrive at the "carnival," which is a bunch of fishing hooks in an area. SpongeBob remembers that the hooks are dangerous and tries warning Patrick, but Pat doesn't believe they're dangerous. A hook even picks up Patrick and carries him up the ocean, but he comes down and thinks the experience that frightened SpongeBob was fun. Patrick tells him to jump off a hook when riding it to avoid being caught, so the two jump on a hook and do that. SpongeBob thinks it's fun.

Because SpongeBob's gone, Squidward must cook at the Krusty Krab, and the customers hate his food. Mr. Krabs learns that SpongeBob is taking a break and sets out to find him. He finds him with Patrick playing on a hook, and when they fly up on it, he thinks they've been caught. When they come back, he tells them they'll be packed in tuna cans if they're caught and to not ride the hooks.

One morning before work, SpongeBob is ready to prove to Mr. Krabs that he'll stay away from the hooks. Patrick stops him and wants him to play on the hooks, but SpongeBob refuses to. When he sees one on the street, he changes his mind and rides it. When he's done, he finds out the hook is stuck in his pants. He runs to tell Mr. Krabs he played on the hook and there's one in his pants. Mr. Krabs tells him he must take off his pants. When he does, he finds the hook stuck to his underwear, but he doesn't want to take them off. The hook carries him off and rips off with his underpants, freeing him. SpongeBob runs home crying, as Squidward and Mr. Krabs laugh about their prank (Squidward really controlled the hook with a fishing pole). Patrick, meanwhile, has been caught and put in a can of tuna.

Song: "Going to the Carnival"

We're going to the carnival

Going to the carniv-*cutoff*

We're going to the carnival

Going to the carnival

Quotes:

Tom: *as Mr. Krabs runs around the Krusty Krab like a freak* Can you make that to go?

Squidward: *hands Tom food he ordered* You don't know how lucky you are.

Fish: My sandwich tastes like a fried boot.

Fish #2: My sandwich IS a fried boot!

SpongeBob: *to hook* You are a liar, a deceiver! I'll never fall for your tricks again! Never! *runs back to hook* Is this seat taken? *rides it*

Patrick: *inside tuna can* Hello? Does someone have a can opener?

Observations:

Drinks Most of the people at the Krusty Krab with drinks have orange liquid in a glass.

Still Inspecting When SpongeBob crawls back to the kitchen under the crate, Squidward still has the wastebasket on his head.

Animation Error When Patrick begins saying "There it is, SpongeBob," he has a bright pink dot on his body that quickly disappears.

Lots of Hooks When Patrick asks SpongeBob, "Does this look dangerous?", he has nine hooks in his mouth and pink drool running down his body.

Vanishing and Changing Hooks Throughout this episode, hooks seen behind SpongeBob and Patrick appear and disappear. In closeups, the characters have hooks behind them, and when the camera zooms out, they disappear and there are different hooks around them.

Patrick's Possessions When Patrick's rock opens while SpongeBob runs to work, a green chair, lamp, and TV can be seen inside.

Closed Captioning Error When SpongeBob says the line "You don't have any fingers, Patrick," the closed captioning reads "You don't have fingers."

Purple Water The water in each glass Mr. Krabs brings for Pearl's friends is purple.

Text Colors The red text on the "Help Wanted" sign is a lot brighter when Mr. Krabs sticks it on the door than when it's shown as a closeup.
