In Brief: SpongeBob and Bikini Bottom celebrate their very first Christmas.

Story: SpongeBob has on his karate gear and is preparing to surprise Sandy. Sandy is in her Treedome decorating her tree with Christmas lights. She plugs them in but SpongeBob thinks the tree's on fire. SpongeBob comes in and throws water on Sandy. Sandy is shocked that SpongeBob's never heard of Christmas. She begins to tell him all about Elves, Reindeer and Santa Claus. The next day at the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob tells Patrick, Squidward and Mr. Krabs all that Sandy had told him about Christmas. After hearing about Santa Claus Mr. Krabs says that anybody that gives away free stuff is a friend of his. Patrick and Mr. Krabs start to write letters to Santa. Squidward doesn't believe there is such a thing as a Santa Claus so he refuses to write one. They put their letters in bottles and SpongeBob shoots them up to the surface.

SpongeBob and the rest sing "The Very First Christmas to Me." SpongeBob continues to shoot letters to the surface. After the last letter gets to the surface SpongeBob realizes that Squidward still hasn't written his letter to Santa. He runs to Squidward's house and starts to write the letter for him. He tells SpongeBob he's not writing a letter to a figmant of his imagination. Squidward shuts the door but everybody tries to convince him to believe and not be a party pooper. Squidward tells everybody that SpongeBob has them all fooled.

All the Bikini Bottom residents are outside singing waiting for Santa to arrive. They are keeping Squidward awake. The next morning they're tired but still singing. Santa never showed up. Everybody gets tired of it and walks off leaving only SpongeBob and Patrick. Patrick stands there until one of the jellyfish jars falls off of the tree and breaks on SpongeBob's head. Patrick says never to trust a genie and walks away. Even the snowman walks away from SpongeBob.

Squidward's alarm goes off. He gets out of bed and yells Merry Christmas to SpongeBob through a megaphone. He takes a picture of SpongeBob under the tree, who has a very sad look on his face. Squidward mocks SpongeBob until he takes out a present and gives it to him. Squidward opens it up revealing a clarinet carved out of driftwood. He pushes a button and three little squids come out and dance. Squidward says that's the best present he's ever gotten and feels like a jerk. SpongeBob takes the lights off of his house and goes to take them off of Squidward's house as well. Suddenly, SpongeBob here's a "ho, ho, ho." He turns around and sees Squidward dressed as Santa Claus, but he doesn't realize it. SpongeBob thanks Santa for bringing Christmas to Bikini Bottom. Squidward tells SpongeBob that he was the one that brought Christmas. SpongeBob faints and lands on Gary's shell. Gary crawls away.

Out of nowhere all the Bikini Bottom citizens come and ask Santa for presents. SpongeBob tells them that Santa won't let them down. Squidward goes in his house to search for presents. He finds a wrench and gives it to a little girl, who is thrilled. Squidward gives a bowl of mashed potatoes to a woman. She puts it on her head and says that she wanted a new hairstyle. He gives Patrick a clock. Patrick thinks it's a wrist watch and puts his hand through it. He keeps giving stuff away to the people until his entire house is empty. SpongeBob comes and knocks on Squidward's door to tell him that he missed Santa Claus. Squidward notices a bottle with a note in it laying on the ground. He picks it up and reads it. It's from Santa Claus. He thanks Squidward and tells him that's he's been a very good boy this year. Squidward thinks he's insane and plays his wooden clarinet.

Song: "The Very First Christmas To Me"

It's shaping up to be a wonderful holiday

Not your normal, average, everyday

Sounds like someone felled my old coral tree

SpongeBob, Patrick, why'd you do this to me

The world feels like it's in loverly

Go away before I harm you bodily

This Christmas feels like the very first Christmas to me

There'll be shopping, decorating, and plenty of snow

Hey, Patrick, who's that under the mistletoe

What? Who, me? Would you look at the time, I should go

People seem a little more brotherly

Here's a special something to you from me

Even the trash, on Christmas it smells so sweetly

This Christmas feels like the very first Christmas to me

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la, la, la

What do you want? Can't you see that I'm busy?

Step outside, we've got something for you to see!

SpongeBob, take this stuff down immediately!

Chestnuts roasting and burns of the third degree!

Tonight things are as good as they seem to be!

A star on the top will complete all the scenery!

This Christmas feels like the very first Christmas to me

This Christmas feels like the very first Christmas to me

Song: "Santa's Coming Tonight"

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Santa's comin tonight, tonight

Quotes:

Mr. Krabs: Okay, boy, my demands, I mean, uhh, my letter, is ready to go.

SpongeBob: Great, Mr Krabs. What did you wish for?

Mr. Krabs: A pony.

SpongeBob: Really?

Mr. Krabs: With saddle bags full of money!

Fish: Thanks for the lies, Mr Fairytale. Let's go waste our time somewhere else!

SpongeBob: Hey, guys, where's your Christmas Spirit? He's just running late.

Patrick: He probably just stopped for a snack. Fat guys get hungry right?

Kid: Do you have a present for me, Santa?

Squidward: Oh, well, uhh, see I'm not really...

SpongeBob: Go ahead, Santa Claus. See, he is real. He made my Christmas wish come true, he won't let you down.

Squidward: Uhh, right, just a second. *searches his house for presents* C'mon, let's see. What do little girls like? A book of matches? Or a shaving kit? A copy of my birth certificate? There's got to be something around here. Think. Think. Think. Ha! Perfect! *hands the little girl a wrench* Ho, ho, ho!

Observations:

Wishes SpongeBob wishes that Santa Claus will visit Bikini Bottom, Mr. Krabs wishes for a pony with saddle bags full of money and Patrick wishes for a new piece of paper.

Coral Tree The coral tree by Squidward's house that SpongeBob and Patrick cut down was never there before.

Not Paying Attention Nobody seemed to notice that all the presents were coming from Squidward's house.

First This was the very first half hour SpongeBob special. This is also the first appearance of Patchy.
